Married life had its ups and downs for Cardi B, but she refuses to give up

When it comes to crazy relationships that keep leaving us in shock with every development, rappers and songwriters Cardi B and Offset take the cake with their fluctuating marriage. There is never a shortage of interesting news about the two, as they manage to appear on media outlets more than any other celebrity couple. But, although most unions would fall from much less than what these two have endured, they just won’t quit!

The beginning

  Let’s first take a look at how their relationship began, so that we can understand their roots a bit more. As far as we know, the soon-to-be couple’s first encounter happened at an unspecified “industry event, as Cardi herself has stated before. The young man intrigued the singer with his persistence, and she decided that she would give him a chance to prove himself. Sometime after the introductions, the two became collaborators and released the song “lick”.

  Soon after, the two became romantically involved although they kept it a secret at first! It seemed like everything was going well for the couple, so they decided to get married. In hindsight, fans couldn’t have predicted that the two would tie the knot so soon after they first met, but the couple was happy and wouldn’t let anything stop them at that point.

For a long time, nobody was aware of this fact- nobody but the two of them- and it took the media a whole 8 months to discover this hidden detail. The duo would even go as far as to stage a fake proposal on stage later down the line to gain publicity, exciting the public without them knowing the deed was already done.

  Up to that point, their relationship portrayed the image of a power couple in the making, with both of them rising through the ranks of stardom. 

Problems arise

  It was the start of 2018 when rumors began brewing over the state of their relationship, with some sources alleging that Offset had been unfaithful. Among the rumors were some that claimed there was a less than favorable tape of the young star being intimate with another woman. The accusations ended up being proven true, and that put the biggest strain on their relationship. Cardi didn’t immediately kick Offset out and was met with lots of criticism from the public because of her willingness to forgive.

When asked about why she didn’t divorce him in an interview with Cosmopolitan, the singer said “Everybody is coming down my neck like, ‘Why are you not leaving him? You have low self-esteem.’ I don’t have low self-esteem” and “I want to work out my shit with my man, and I don’t got to explain why… I’m not your property. This is my life … I’m going to take my time, and I’m going to decide on my decision … It’s not right, what he f****ng did—but people don’t know what I did, ’cause I ain’t no angel.”

  It seemed like despite the mistakes Offset had made, Cardi was willing to let him redeem himself, even going as far as to say that she had made her own mistakes in the relationship. Another possible reason as to why the couple remained strong could have been their upcoming baby. Yes, in the Saturday Night Live show she hosted, the star appeared on stage with a visible baby bum, and the rumors about her pregnancy were finally proven true. 

Kulture and more trouble

  Fans wanted to believe that the introduction of a baby into their relationship would help smoothen things out, and that the obstacles they faced would be the last. On July 11^th, 2018, the two announced the birth of their baby girl, Kulture, and everybody was happy for the new parents. The two would go on to make more appearances together on shows and enjoy life with relatively little troubles, excluding a run in with the law Cardi had, which was speculated to involve one of the girls Offset had been unfaithful to her with.

  Going forward a couple of months, Cardi comes out and announces out of nowhere that she and Offset had split, without providing details as to why they decided on this. The reveal came as a small shock to most. She posted this on Instagram to make their split official: “you know I’ve been trying to work things out with my baby’s father for a hot minute now… And we’re really good friends and you know, we’re really good business partners—you know he’s always somebody that I went to talk to, and we got a lot of love for each other but things just haven’t been working out between us for a long time.”

Against all odds, the couple proved the haters wrong yet again and got back together. It seemed like nothing could break them; regardless of how many mistakes Offset would make, Cardi would take him back in. Even the Migos rapper admitted on multiple occasions that he had been a bad partner, but he always tried to win her back. 

The latest from the pair

  The drama would continue after a brief period of calmness, a period that would see the couple attending events together and act like everything is normal. On September 15, 2020, the couple’s world would be rocked again. Documents pertaining to a divorce filing by Cardi B would be discovered, and they looked bad. In the papers, the plaintiff, Cardi B, was asking for full custody of their daughter Kulture and for Offset to be paying for child support. Additionally, the singer stated that their marriage was “irretrievably broken”, suggesting that there was no way of ever getting back together.

  You would think that it’d be finally over after all irretrievably broken tends to mean that- but, as you may have guessed by now, the story continues. A couple of days before the first court hearing, news broke out that the “WAP” singer had called off the divorce ‘without prejudice’, meaning that none of her rights or privileges were lost. There’s still very little information about what led to this decision, but we do know this: Offset has been busy trying to win back his love by offering her expensive gifts, and he isn’t afraid to show his advances on Instagram.

  The question is will gifts be enough to win back the trust of someone you’ve disappointed in the past? More importantly, are the two doomed to repeat this come and go for a long time before they really figure it out?
