If you are not familiar with Charli D’Amelio, then you may be living under a rock. The 17-year old has been making headlines all across the media, signing brand deals left and right, appearing on numerous shows and even having her very own show, all while amassing a huge following on social media. What’s most impressive is that she has achieved all of that before even turning into an adult.

How it all began

The world first took notice of the sensational teen on TikTok where her captivating dances amazed her soon-to-be huge viewer base. But make no mistake, this was something she had worked on from a very young age. In fact, by the time she had turned 3 years old, she had already begun her training as a dancer, and she was even competing from the moment she turned 5!

This is the secret behind how her dancing has become so popular with users of the app. It was because she is a professional with many years of experience. Next time you feel bad about not being able to dance as well as your favourite star remember that she was practically born and raised to do what she does.

Brands and Sponsorships

As you can imagine, all of this fame and attention can lead to some incredible opportunities for aspiring young stars. Naturally, she and her family have made the most of the situation and earned a lot of money out of it. The D’Amelios have been signing one brand deal after the other, and they have even made many appearances  in advertisements, along with other megastars. Most notably, Charli had the opportunity to dance alongside Jennifer Lopez on Tik TOk for the J.Lo Super Bowl Challenge and has even appeared on a Super Bowl commercial for… Hummus?

The D’Amelio Show

On the 18th of December 2020, it was announced on Instagram that the D’Amelio family, Charli, her sister Dixie, and their parents will be getting an exclusive series on the Hulu platform. It will be structured in 8 parts and will document how the D’Amelios’ lives have changed with their sudden rise to fame and how the family deals with all that comes with stardom.

The show is bound to boost Charli’s popularity even further, and her fans are eagerly expecting it. However, no date was given for the show’s release, only a vague “coming in 2021” statement and fans have begun to grow impatient as they wait. No matter when it comes out, the fact that she is getting her own show signals that her popularity isn’t something that will go away anytime soon.

Not all is great about living the big life

Take for example, the now infamous episode of Dinner with the D’Amelios, featuring popular make-up youtuber, James Charles. In the video, the family was supposed to have a nice dinner together, courtesy of chef Aaron May, but the behavior displayed by the sisters, Charli and Dixie, did not sit well with viewers.

Fans quickly turned to social media to voice their disappointment with the two teenagers over how they hated the food the chef had made for them and how they wanted dino-shaped nuggets instead. Moreover, Charli D’Amelio said she would have loved to hit 100 million followers on Tik Tok a year after reaching 1 million. This was seen as her being ungrateful for what she already has, which further outraged her fans.

To most outsiders, it would seem like those who rise to fame in a short strech of time like Charli are living the dream and should be envied, but being at the forefront of the media’s attention isn’t an easy thing. As she found out the hard way, being famous means that you may have to face judgement and scrutiny by the whole world for every single action you take, and that can be devastating.

It got bad

This video resulted in a backlash in which Charli ended up losing the crazy amount of 100,000 followers. However she has stood strong against her haters, even going as far as to post this to her twitter account:

But hey, you can’t say that everything regarding this situation was horrible because Yummy Dino Buddies, the brand behind the star’s favourite dino nuggets reached out to her after the video was published and offered the family their favourite snacks for free! Maybe being famous isn’t so bad after all!
